Review : Lust is the Thorn by Jen McLaughlin

This book was a surprise to me.  At first I wasn't sure If I was going to like it as I'm not usually into books that have a religious theme.

Thorn is the older brothers best friend of Rose.  Rose is the younger sister of Thorn's deceased best friend.  They both are fighting demons of the past and are doing them in complete opposite ways.  Thorn is in school to become a priest in the catholic church.  Rose is dancing at the local strip club.

They both came from the slums of Chicago and had similar lives as kids.  But after the past happened, Thorn stops being a man whore and wants forgiveness for he what thinks he has done, so he goes into the seminary.  Rose goes from one bad relationship to another not allowing herself to believe she deserves better.

After an accident, the two spend time together and even though they are fighting the love they have for one another, they know they can't move forward with each other.

With the help of Father John, Thorn helps Rose better her life, which makes Rose unhappy.,  She believes she doesn't need anyone's help.

After some time they part ways and try to go on with their lives. But after an accident, they realize they are fighting a losing battle.  Thorn makes a difficult decision and so does Rose.

The story was a bit repetitive when coming from each of the characters thoughts.  At one point, I was yelling at my phone telling them to "just spit it out".  The story flowed and had just enough background on each character for me to be comfortable understanding them.

I gave this book 4 stars for its originality and story flow.
