Review : Lessons of the Heart by Jodie Larson

Lessons of the Heart by Jodie Larson is the first book I have read by her.  It was well written, plot nicely outlined and the characters had depth even though it was a YA.  This was a student/teacher forbidden romance.  I typically stay away from those unless they are written about college age characters.  This book was not childish and was so well written that I didn't feel wrong for a teacher falling in love with his high school student.

Britta is a high school senior trying to complete her senior year and get herself ready for her college years.  She has a great family and friends.  She is one of those girls that look and act older than she is.

James is a new teacher at Britta's school.  He believes Britta is another teacher at the new school he is teaching at and begins to flirt with her.   Once he finds out she is just a student, it is like an ice cold bathe for both of them.  He attempts to keep it professional, but Britta and James are two very similar people and are very comfortable around one another and the fire continues to rage between them.

Britta has a close relationship with her brother Liam and her best friend Penny.  She also has another friend Chase who is in love with her, but Britta doesn't feel the same.  Their relationship is put to the test when others out of their inner circle find out and they fight to keep it from getting out the the school.  Once Britta graduates, the relationship blossoms.

This was a 5 star read for me.   I was able to read it all in one afternoon.  It was one of those stories that kept my attention and I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next.
