Review : One Pink Rose by Julie Garwood

I have not read the first book of this series. With that being said, I don’t feel like I am missing chunks of the story.  I feel like it could be read as a standalone. I did wish for a little more character development over all.

We meet Emily who is going to Golden Crest as a mail order bride. She needs to feel like herself. Take charge of her destiny. She needs a man to escort her there. Enter Travis.

Travis wants to be a lawyer. His early childhood isn't one of the greatest.  He is also asked to escort Emily to meet her new husband. Travis doesn't want to but in the end he agrees.

But along the way they fall for each other. The trip lasts longer than expected and that’s when things start to get interesting. She isn't an easy girl to get along with and they banter back and forth quite a bit. It’s funny to read it.

“You can’t decide to be Southern.”
“But of course I can. I can be anything I want to be.”

It’s a shorter story. I enjoyed it, would I read more by this author as this was a first for me, probably not because it’s not my genre period romance.
But like I said, it was enjoyable.
