Review : Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught

** ARC provided by the Author for an honest review **

Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught, to me, is the gold standard in historical romance. It has stood the test of time, and gets better each time you read it. There are so many details and a well researched, thought out plot.

Whitney is a very relatable character. She has grown up without a mother to guide her. She loves life as a free spirit and on her terms. Her father sends her to Paris to live with her aunt and uncle to become more refined.

During Whitney's time away, she does everything she can so Paul Sevarin well notice her when she returns home and will hopefully marry her. All she has ever wanted is to marry Paul.

Paul is Whitney's childhood crush. He continuously flirts with other women and plays games to make Whitney jealous.

Clayton Westland is really the Duke of Claymore, Clayton Westmoreland. Clayton and Whitney met in Paris at a masquerade ball. He decided after that meeting that he wanted Whitney and put a plan in motion and moved down the road from Whitney's father. He struck an agreement with Whitney's father.

I love the relationship between Clayton and Whitney. He allows her to be herself and doesn't try to change her. They have great banter and you can feel the sparks when reading about them.

I do not want to post any spoilers. Team Paul or Team Clayton? This is a book that will take you through every emotion and make you want to throw your kindle across the room. Keep the tissue close by as well. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

On a more personal note : This was one of the first books I ever read, when I was a young adult I basically stole it from my Mother's reading collection. I still have the original paperback in my possession, its tattered and falling apart but the ONE book that will remain in my collection until I die. This novel means so much to me, it was what sparked my love of reading, especially Historical Romances, holds unforgettable and precious memories of my Mother and I talking on and on about the story over tea long after we had originally read it. You see it is a novel that you will never forget. I always go back to read it only to ground me (sometimes you need a beautiful love story to get swept away in). I would like to thank Judith McNaught for ALWAYS keeping the bare high, for continually writing magical stories and never losing an ounce of her professional writing style. She is a true testament to what a great writer is and should be.

Re Reading this version as an adult at this moment .. it is surreal and an honor.

This is a fabulous 5 Stars!
