20. Estimated number of veterans who take their own lives every day in the U.S. alone. (US Department of Veteran Affairs)

‘War Poppy’ by Nicole Lynne captures and engulfs you in the life of a male; Brandon O’Keife, who has severe PTSD. He tries to outrun his thoughts and emotions with alcohol and fighting in an underground club, but the one woman who he does not want to see shows up at his doorstep and tries to not let the darkness consume him. Poppy Turner Blaine, lost her husband and best friend in war. She is barely surviving so she hunts down the one man who she believes will help her heal. As it turns out, she is lost just as much as Brandon is and both seem to be in a tailspin of life.

“They say the people who are left behind are the ones who suffer the most when it comes to death...”

Two lost, broken souls reconnect. Poppy is the light to Brandon’s darkness even though she struggles with her own pain. Will they let each other fall or will they help each other overcome the grief and hurt? Will the darkness consume them or will light shine through?

This is not your typical romantic novel. This story is a emotional rollercoaster that you will need a box of kleenex close at hand. As a military spouse myself, this was hard to read, but Ms. Lynn has written a poetic novel of what PTSD can do to a veteran. She has a way with words that gives the reader, the emotional picture of abuse that a veteran holds inside after a traumatic event.
