The Blackbird Season by the New York Times Bestselling author Katie Moretti is a disturbing novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat! This is a first read of Ms. Moretti for me and to be honest I was very skeptical as I am not much for mystery, suspense reader, but she most definitely delivers and encaptured me from the beginning to the end.
In a small town in Pennsylvania, a town so small where everyone knows everyone, when dreams of leaving the town is all you think about in high school; a thousand Starlings (blackbirds) drop dead from the sky above. On this day, these Starlings are a sign of what’s to come for certain locals that will turn their world upside down.
You follow Nate Winters who is the all-American high school coach and teacher who would give the shirt off his back for his students and players, but does his caring go a little too far? When a student goes missing and charges are brought up against him with an affair, will the town turn against him, his family or will they rally and find out the truth?
Will there be a saving grace?
There are multiple point of views in The Blackbird Season; Nate, Alecia, Lucia and Bridget. It might be a lot to follow as a reader, but it all ties in together in the end. Ms. Moretti brings you a hauntingly compelling novel with lots of twists and turns. Just when you think you know what happens, it changes. If you like mystery novels then this is the book for you!
